Tree Services Across the Hibiscus Coast
Palm Removal and Palm Trimming
Palms are a regular job for our crew on the coast, and phoenix palms take the most care because of the spines on their frond stalks. Every frond and trunk round goes with us, and the stump is ground out on the same booking.
Where a palm is healthy and wanted, we trim dead fronds and seed heads instead. Tell us the species if you know it.
Norfolk Island Pine Removal
Norfolk Island pines grow tall and straight beside many coastal homes, and they rarely have room to fall. We climb them, strip the branch whorls and lower the trunk in sections, the way our crew took down a pine beside a house in Orewa in 2018.
Norfolk pines appear in 28 notable tree entries on the coast, so a pine's status is confirmed before it is priced.
Pōhutukawa Pruning and Coastal Trees
Our arborists prune pōhutukawa for roof, view and driveway clearance, cutting back to growth points so the tree keeps its shape. Pōhutukawa feature in 75 of the 141 notable tree entries across the Hibiscus Coast, more than any other species.
A scheduled pōhutukawa can lose only a limited share of its live growth each year without consent, so mention it early if the tree is on your LIM.
Treeline and Hedge Reductions
Boundary treelines of acmena and olive are the screens we have cut back in Red Beach and Silverdale, bringing height and width down so gardens and lawns get light again without losing privacy.
Reductions are cut from ladders or by climbing, and the clippings are chipped and taken away. Tell us the height you want to keep, and whether the neighbour's side needs cutting too.
Section Clearing for New Builds
Milldale and Millwater North went from 165 residents to 3,591 between the 2018 and 2023 Censuses, and the building has not stopped. We clear trees and scrub from sections ahead of a build or extension, as we did on a building site at Little Manly in 2023.
Send the site plan, so any trees it keeps are marked before the crew starts.
Storm-Damaged Tree Removal
Coastal storms bring down limbs and whole trees, like the pepper tree our crew removed after storm damage in Orewa in 2018. The 24/7 line takes those calls, and making the tree safe comes first.
Keep people and cars clear of anything leaning, and send a photo when you call so the crew brings the right gear for the job.
How a Hibiscus Coast Tree Job Runs
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| Step 1. Free site visit | An arborist looks at the tree, the house and fences around it, and where the chipper can park on the street or drive. |
| Step 2. Notable tree check | The tree is checked against the notable tree schedule and the ecological overlays for your address. |
| Step 3. Written quote | You get a line-by-line price covering the method, stump grinding and clean-up. |
| Step 4. The work | Large trees come down in sections on ropes. Palms lose their fronds before the trunk is lowered. |
| Step 5. Clean-up | Branches are chipped and taken away, and paths and lawns are raked and blown before we leave. |

Hibiscus Coast Homes, Notable Trees and Growth
About 60,000 people lived across the 24 census areas from Hatfields Beach and Orewa to Silverdale, Millwater, Milldale and the end of the Whangaparāoa Peninsula at the 2023 Census, up from 50,673 in 2018. Of the 22,092 occupied homes, 76 per cent were separate houses. Joined homes make up about half of Orewa Central, and where a tree stands between units off Hibiscus Coast Highway, it comes down in sections.
The notable tree schedule matters more here than in Rodney's rural north. There are 141 schedule entries inside these census areas: pōhutukawa appear in 75 of them, Norfolk Island pine in 28 and kauri in 11. Under the Unitary Plan notable trees overlay, a scheduled tree can lose no more than 10 per cent of its live growth in a calendar year without consent, and removing one is a discretionary activity.
Single House zoning covers about 22 per cent of the land in these census areas, Countryside Living 16 per cent and Large Lot 8 per cent. Future Urban zoning, about 9 per cent, marks the ground where the next subdivisions go, beyond the newer streets off Millwater Parkway. Orewa, Silverdale and the Peninsula are worked by the same arborists who cover the whole North Shore.
